Little Flowers School
HELP has funded free after-school classes in Tamil history, English, Science and Social Studies for the children of Thirikuvil, a village on the East Coast which was devastated by the tsunami. The 'school', named 'Little Flowers', has been established in the garden of Mr Gunapalan, a university lecturer and old friend of HELP. The school has over 100 children attending lessons daily.
HELP has funded the makeshift classrooms, the books and other equipment and provides the salaries for the three teachers. This project has been an unqualified success. The results in the local school have improved significantly since the facility was established two years ago and we are hoping to be able to expand the facility later this year. Our trustees were very priviliged to be able to attend the end of year celebration and prize giving for the children.
