Amman Girls Home
The Amman Girls Home in Akkaraipattu cares for 52 orphaned girls between the ages of 6 and 16.
When our Trustees visited the Home in July 2005, the girls were sleeping, eating their meals and having lessons on the floor. We were delighted to be able to provide sufficient chairs and tables at least to allow the girls to have lessons and meals in reasonable comfort. We have since been delighted to build a new kitchen for the orphans and pay for the installation of electricity to the Home. We have also paid for the internal toilets and showers to be connected (the girls had previously to make use of five small external toilets ) and we have decorated the girls' bedrooms. Finally, we are delighted to report that we have been able to set up a regular bursary of £150 per month to meet the home's running costs, including food and clothes.
